RVH welcomes new nephrologist
Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is pleased to announce that Dr. Geena Joseph will be joining our Regional Nephrology Program beginning on July 1, 2016.
Dr. Joseph will work with RVH nephrologists Dr. Nicole Delbrouck and Dr. Amtul Musawir to provide care for patients with chronic kidney disease at the new state-of-the-art nephrology centre opened in April 2015 in Renfrew, as well as satellite sites in Pembroke and Barry’s Bay. Initially, she will travel to Pembroke several times each month.
Dr. Joseph became familiar with the area after providing a three-week locum at RVH in the spring of 2009, and liked the culture of the organization.
“What attracted me to RVH was the people who work in the RVH nephrology program, the focus on quality patient care and continuous efforts to improve the quality of the program and service to the community,” she stated.
Dr. Delbrouck feels confident Dr. Joseph is a very good fit for RVH. “She is a very dynamic person. She loves to look after the patients and it will be great for her to be part of a group that has the same mission. Dr. Musawir and I are very excited that she is coming to RVH.”
“I am excited for our patients and staff” said Randy Penney, President and CEO of RVH “Dr. Joseph brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. Our county-wide program will benefit from her clinical expertise. I am happy that Dr. Joseph and her family will be moving to our community”.
Drs. Delbrouck, Musawir and Joseph will work on a shared model of care, which will allow Dr. Joseph to continue her interests in general nephrology, home dialysis, glomerulonephritis, and obstetrical medicine in our region.
Dr. Joseph graduated from the University of Toronto medical school in 2002 and completed her Internal Medicine and Nephrology training at the University of Western Ontario. She subsequently completed a Glomerulonephritis and Obstetrical Medicine (medical complications of pregnancy) Fellowship at the University of Toronto. She joined the faculty of McMaster University in 2010. She is a clinical assistant professor, division of nephrology at McMaster University until June 2016.
She has given presentations to the American Society of Nephrology and the Canadian Society of Nephrology, the International Society of Obstetrical Medicine and to hospitals, universities and conferences throughout Ontario.
Dr. Joseph is the author or co-author of several publications on issues related to chronic kidney disease and has been involved in numerous teaching activities. She will use her teaching experience to augment the educational outreach at RVH and take it to the next level.
“I am looking forward to joining the nephrology team in Renfrew, serving the community, and adding my expertise to an already amazing group of individuals,” says Dr. Joseph.
