At the heart of RVH, Café Victoria provides a meeting place for coworkers, physicians, volunteers, visitors and patients alike to congregate on a daily basis. It is home to myriad of special events from presentations and educational activities to celebrations.
Adding to the experience at Café Victoria is the welcoming, helpful staff who can offer suggestions from the day’s selections. In our cafeteria’s relaxing atmosphere, employees, physicians, and visitors can set aside the demands of the day for a while to enjoy good company and a wholesome meal or light snack.
Our cafeteria has earned a reputation for serving a wonderful selection of quality, nutritious food. RVH has made ongoing investments in staff and equipment, and a commitment to purchase locally and prepare from scratch when possible, so we know what is going into our food.
The cafeteria gives back to RVH staff by subsidizing our robust employee education assistance fund. A portion of coffee and beverage sales goes to the fund to help pay for continuing education courses, certification and conference registration fees, helping to build knowledge and skills and improve the overall care we provide.
Healthy Foods in our hospital
BRONZE - RVH is one of the hospitals in the Champlain LHIN to reach bronze level in the Healthy Foods program, which is being spearheaded by the Champlain Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Network (CCPN) to create supportive, healthy food environments for staff, physicians, visitors, patients and volunteers. The CCPN is housed at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
SILVER - In November 2017, Renfrew Victoria Hospital attained the Silver benchmark for Healthy Foods in Hospitals. The Silver level builds on the tangible changes made at the Bronze level and includes progressive standards such as expanding the provision of calorie and sodium information at point-of-purchase, reducing processed meats, and phasing out sugary beverages. We have also introduced new and delicious meals and snacks which emphasize whole grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds - mainstays of healthy eating.
RVH is among a small but growing group of hospitals to reach this impressive milestone in our region!
