Ground-breaking launches $3 million CT scanner project

Preparing the ground for a new CT unit at Renfrew Victoria Hospital are, from left, RVH CEO Randy Penney, Radiologist Dr. Sherief Massoud, Chief of Diagnostic Imaging Dr. David Lyons, Diagnostic Imaging Lead Hand Phil Crozier, Vice-President of Corporate Services Julia Boudreau, Board Chair Catherine O’Neil, Foundation Chair Jim Lemenchick, Architect Brian Dickey, Renfrew Mayor Sandi Heins and Bruce Romain, project manager for Massicotte Construction.
The addition of a CT service at RVH was “shovel-ready” when dignitaries gathered for an official ground-breaking celebration in early June. With a cement mixer in the background, the $3-million development was launched. Speakers at the event noted that the addition will improve care, eliminate the need for approximately 6,000 out-of-town trips for tests each year, and help the community recruit new medical professionals.
“I firmly believe that history will show that the introduction of a CT service at RVH will fall into that category of a sentinel event that changed the future of our organization,” stated RVH CEO Randy Penney. “The health care of today and tomorrow depends on this critical diagnostic technology.”
Speakers also acknowledged the partnership of the Ontario Ministry of Health and the Champlain Local Health integration Network for fast-tracking approvals for the project.
The service is expected to be up and running this fall.
All of the funds for this project will come from local donations. Anyone interested in contributing is invited to contact the RVH Foundation Office at 613-432-4851 ext. 263.
