Recent retirees were among the stars at Renfrew Victoria Hospital’s “Night At The Oscars” to celebrate worklife achievements. Those honoured included, front row, Brenda Collins and Bernadette Bailey, and back row, Donna Keon and Dianne Fortier.
There were nearly 70 stars to be honoured when Renfrew Victoria Hospital hosted “A Night At The Oscars” to celebrate worklife accomplishments last week (May 7).
The special evening included a red-carpeted entrance, portraits of the stars, miniature Oscar statues for them to keep, and the sharing of many warm memories and words of encouragement.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to say thanks,” said RVH CEO Randy Penney.
He noted that the local hospital is unique in the province for the broad range of programs and services delivered by such a small, community facility.
“It’s only possible because of the hard work of the staff, our physicians, our board, our foundation and the support of our community,” Penney concluded.
He noted that the corporation has experienced tremendous growth over the 40-year period covered by the 2009 worklife awards. For the last 20 of those years, the corporation has successfully managed a balanced corporate budget that has now grown to $34 million. The range of services and the number of people who receive care through hospital programs has grown exponentially. For example, in 1993 the RVH dialysis program provided 1,000 treatments. Last year, it provided 16,000 treatments county-wide.
Penney also pointed out that those receiving RVH “Oscars” this year had made a total commitment of more than 2,000 years of service to the hospital, which represents more than four million hours of work.
Those honoured at the event included Dr. Ron Lavigne who is celebrating his 40th year as an RVH physician, and 35-year recipients Pat Colterman, Gladys Curry and Dr. Bruce Strader.
