RVH welcomes new full-time radiologist
Renfrew Victoria Hospital is pleased to announce that Dr. Sherief Massoud has joined the RVH medical staff as a full-time radiologist.
Dr. Massoud comes to Renfrew from the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, where he has been a radiologist for the past eight years. Previous to that, Dr. Massoud spent the majority of his 28-year career in Thunder Bay. He also practiced in Virginia for a couple of years.
“We are pleased that Dr. Massoud has joined our diagnostic imaging department and the medical staff of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital,” says RVH CEO Randy Penney. “He has a wealth of experience and we are fortunate that he has agreed to work in Renfrew.”
“We have been well-served over the years with excellent radiologists and, on behalf of the entire organization, I would like to welcome Dr. Massoud,” Penney adds.
The radiologist’s link to RVH actually extends back to his residency at the University of Toronto, where he was a classmate of Dr. David Lyons, Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging at RVH.
Dr. Massoud says he was drawn to Renfrew by the collegiality of the hospital’s physicians and staff, and by the excellence of the equipment in the diagnostic imaging department.
“They’ve selected good equipment in ultrasound and mammography,” he comments, noting that the community hospital has successfully built a very “vibrant” diagnostic imaging department.
While he will join the RVH medical staff on a full-time basis on October 27, Dr. Massoud has been working part-time at the hospital since August.
He has been extensively involved in preparing for the introduction of CT (computerized tomography) at RVH, providing input on the request for tenders and helping to review the bids received.
He is very excited about bringing that development to fruition, and Dr. Massoud says he is also looking forward to the day-to-day duties of providing general radiology in the community hospital setting.
“It will be great to be there,” he concludes. “I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
