Champlain CCAC to set up nursing clinics at Renfrew County hospitals
PEMBROKE — The Champlain Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) is embarking on a new partnership with five of Renfrew County’s hospitals to improve access to and continuity of nursing care throughout the county.
A nursing clinic is being established on site at each hospital to provide care closer to home for those who depend on the CCAC and its contracted agencies. Each hospital is setting aside space to accommodate this need.
In addition to improving access to care, the clinics will decrease visits to hospital emergency departments, and improve continuity of service by decreasing service interruptions.
After referral, people in need of nursing care will be assessed by CCAC case managers. Where appropriate, they will be referred to the local CCAC/hospital clinic to receive care.
Clients who qualify and who are currently receiving services such as wound care at home or administration of IV antibiotics can benefit.
Hours of service will vary from hospital to hospital, but the clinics will operate seven days a week for four hours each day to start.
The proposed start dates are:
- Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital—July 21
- Pembroke Regional Hospital—August 5
- St. Francis Memorial Hospital, Barry’s Bay—August 11
- Renfrew Victoria Hospital—To be confirmed
Deep River will assess the need for a clinic at a later date. At this time, nursing visit volumes would not support a clinic.
