What is Palliative Care?
Palliative care is the active, compassionate care given to terminally ill patients when they no longer respond to traditional medical treatment. Palliative care helps to control symptoms and pain and gives physical, emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families.

Palliative care offers individualized care and promotes personal dignity for the dying, their families, and significant others.

When can Palliative Care be requested?
Palliative care services can be requested when the patient, family or health care professional realizes that the patient is terminally ill.

Who refers patients to Palliative Care?
Referral to palliative care is made by your physician. Please feel free to discuss palliative care with your physician.

What services are available?
The following services can be proved by health care professionals, and trained, dedicated volunteers.

  • patient and family consultation and support
  • pain and symptom control
  • care at home or in hospital
  • scheduled relief for the family or other care givers
  • bereavement follow-up
